Hiddenwires Kennel is located in the village of Hurkett which is approx 100 KM east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
We started out with a female Wirehaired Dachshund from a breeder in Pennsylvania whose bloodlines go back to bloodtrackers from Germany. We really enjoyed the energy level and temperment of the breed and decided to breed her with another bloodtracker imported from Poland, living in upper New York State. This produced a lovely litter of 5 puppies, which are in homes across Canada and the U.S. One of these pups is credited with finding over 200 animals in the Southern United States.
Tazz was from this first litter and she earned her Rally Obedience Excellent title from CKC, as well as her CGN and Pre CD Obedience. The three titles combined earned her the honour of being awarded the Versatile Dachshund Award from the Prairie Dachshund Club. She was also the Top Rally Dog for having the most points for a SW Dachshund in 2013. She is currently active in Barn Hunt, and earned her RATN and RATO.
A second breeding with a decorated Conformation Show Dog, CH Treis Pinheros Black Bear from the Wiretap Kennel in Regina, SK produced a litter of 3, all of which are Conformation Champions with the CKC and live with us.
Our 2014 litter, born just after Christmas, was a large litter of 8 babies. Two of these have homes in the U.S., one with a Big Game Recovery organization in New York state, and the other with a family in Illinois. Two others joined the Hiddenwires pack, living with us. Check out the rest of the website to see what they have all been up to.
Another litter arrived in early April 2016, all of which have gone to their new homes, some close and some far. Lily has stayed with us, and we are now being trained by her for what? Update: She earned her Rally Obedience Novice Title in October 2017, and is doing very well at Barn Hunt, having earned her RATI and RATN and 30 points in Crazy 8's. She is now involved in North American Dog Sports and has Titles in Shed Dog, Trail and Locate and Urban Locate.
There have been a couple of litters since then, we have two new members to our home pack, Cable and Bo. We are still figuring out what Cable will want to take on as her sport, and Bo has earned his Grand Championship in conformation and recently his Rally Novice Title.
We have made the hard decision to not breed any longer. However, Bo will be available for stud by request.
We are members of the Canadian Kennel Club, Lakehead Kennel Club, Northwestern Ontario Working Dog Association, and the North Shore Dog Club.
